MEDP is ‘hopping to it’ as we enter the Year of the Rabbit.  We are off to an exciting start welcoming new staff and kicking off our workforce and internship programming for 2023.  Plus we want to highlight new grant opportunities and other resources for our business community.  Read on to learn more!

 


MEDP Launches 2023 Internship Programs and Welcomes New Support Staff:

Liz Knapp, Career Bound Spring 2023 Coordinator and Megan Gilbert, McMinnville WORKS Summer 2023 Launch Coordinator.

Liz Knapp

Liz Knapp, Career Bound Spring 2023 Coordinator and Educator.  Career Bound 2023 is an expansion of the 2019 pilot and is brought to Yamhill County through a Future Ready Oregon Youth Development Division Grant awarded to MEDP.  Liz will be reaching out to recruit local host employers interested in participating in this ‘grow our own’ local workforce targeting youth age 14-24 from priority populations.  The program will run March - May and offer wage subsidy to employers (up to $3,000/intern or $6,000/employer).  The goal of the program is to place 15 youth in paid work experience opportunities with employer mentors, offering these youth the chance to gain first time work experiences, essential workplace skills training and set them on a path forward with career exploration opportunities.

Megan Gilbert

Megan Gilbert, McMinnville WORKS Summer 2023 Launch Coordinator and local Linfield University student.  MEDP’s heading into the 10th year of this award winning internship program and is excited to announce that Applications are open.  If you are a local area employer looking for young collegiate level interns to get some projects done this summer, then sign up today!  The McMinnville WORKS program purpose is to offer paid internship opportunities for collegiate level (entering-graduates) interns the opportunity to do project based work in their field of study and participate in professional development workshops.  Check out this video about the program to learn more:  WORKS Video

MEDP 2023 Internship Programs - Open for Host Sites and Interns, sign up today!

Career Bound Spring 2023 Internship Program - OPEN to Host Sites and Youth Participants!

Yamhill County Business Community members interested in supporting workforce development can hire Youth 14-24 and receive wage subsidy up to $3,000/intern. This program will run March-May. Employers interested in learning more can complete the Host Site Interest Form.

Youth, ages 14-24 in Yamhill County can apply to get paid work experience and essential workplace training skills at area businesses.  Interested Youth can complete the Youth Interest Form for more information.

 

McMinnville WORKS Summer 2023 -- OPEN to Host Sites and to Intern Applicants!

Our decade running and award winning internship program is now open for Summer 2023.  McMinnville WORKS focuses on connecting collegiate level applicants with paid project based work in their field of study at area businesses.  Local McMinnville Area Host Employers can complete the Host Site Application Form to participate.  Consider all of your project lists you want to get done with the help of a young professional!  Applicants are recruited by MEDP with Host sites receiving their candidate list in early March for scheduling interviews.  The program runs mid-June through mid-August and start/end date can vary by employer.

The McMinnville WORKS Intern Application is now open for collegiate professionals, whether you are entering in the fall, are a current student or graduate.  Application deadline is March 1, 2023.  Find more information at the link.  As specific internship opportunities are defined our website will be updated with current opportunities.

Willamette Workforce Partnership (WWP) -- Workforce grant opportunities!

  • Yamhill County Business Direct Impact Grant - Opens January 18, 2023!
  • Youth Wage Grant: Agriculture Related - Hire 14-17 and receive $5/hr reimbursement
  • Incumbent Worker Training Grant - continuous enrollment (as long as funds are available), maximum grant is $25,000

 


Business Oregon - Grant Opportunity: Economic Equity Investment Program

Business Oregon has an economic equity investment opportunity, read more in their press release.  Below is a list of examples of programs, tools, or activities that would be considered appropriate or eligible under each key area. Based on the understanding that wealth building means something different for different communities, please note that these are merely examples and not an exhaustive list of possible uses of the funds; applicants are encouraged to propose approaches that they have successfully utilized and that will help achieve the overall goals of the program. 

  • Ownership of land, principal residences, other real property: down payment assistance, Individual Development Accounts, retail space, foreclosure prevention, land grants and community land trusts, and education related to wealth-building through home ownership.
  • Entrepreneurship and business development: business loans or forgivable loans, business grants, access to professional services, Individual Development Accounts, equipment purchases, training or programs, licensing fees, immigration fees, and personal and business tax preparation.
  • Workforce development: job training, paid internships, apprenticeships, re-entry programs, job readiness support, job search assistance, and trade and technology programs.
  • Intergenerational wealth building: children’s savings accounts, credit counseling, matched savings programs, bonds or other safe investment vehicles, and debt reduction.

CBDG Emergency Small Business and Micro Enterprise - Grant Opens Monday!

The Oregon Business Development Department has partnered with CCD Business Development Corporation, a private nonprofit economic development organization to administer and process the $3 million dollars allocated to the CDBG-CV Statewide Emergency Small Business & Microenterprise Grant Program. This program is funded with federal grant funds from the Oregon Community Development Block Grant program CARES Act funding for communities affected by COVID-19.

SBA HubZone Program - Small Business Preferential Access to Federal Contracts

The HUBZone program fuels the growth of small businesses in historically underutilized business zones (HUBZones) by providing certification for preferential access to federal contracts. The federal government has a goal to award at least 3 percent of all federal contracting dollars to HUBZone-certified small businesses each year.

APT Meets with Business Oregon Director Cheang
APT is working with local, regional, and state partners on expansion of a manufacturing facility in the McMinnville Industrial District. The expansion includes a clean room to advance APT as a world leader in production of commercial cathodes and new product development.
