MEDP Launches 2017 Host Site Application for McMinnville WORKS

Nov 3, 2016

(MCMINNVILLE, OR) - The McMinnville Economic Development Partnership (MEDP) has launched the Host Site Application for the 2017 McMinnville WORKS program. Applications are accepted online and will continue to be accepted through Dec. 30. The application is the first chance for companies and organizations located around McMinnville to express interest in hosting an intern for the summer of 2017.

The McMinnville WORKS Internship Program was created as a part of the “Grow Our Own” Initiative. 2017 will mark the fifth year of the program with each year showing an increase in host site participation, applications received, internship positions available, and jobs offered upon completion of internship. The program has also been recognized by organizations such as the Oregon Economic Development Association who awarded McMinnville WORKS the Outstanding Partnership Award in 2014.

In order to be a host site, companies must be committed to hiring one or more interns for project based internships that will last nine-weeks at minimum wage pay or higher. The projects and positions vary according to the company’s needs. Previous internship positions include mechanical engineering, marketing, event planning, social media marketing, sales, continuous improvement, and more.

The McMinnville WORKS program is like an “easy” button for companies to host interns. Once companies commit to being a host site for the summer, MEDP markets the positions and manages applications. After receiving applications, MEDP vets the applications and creates personalized internship packets which are sent to each company. Upon receiving the internship packets companies are then responsible for interviewing and hiring interns. Last year MEDP received 170 applications for the internship program. Along with this, MEDP offers support to companies through workshops and marketing.

Participating in the McMinnville WORKS Program not only helps bring new workers into the community, it allows a company to network and reach multiple young professionals. In 2016, 14 host sites hired 20 different interns. Upon completion of the 9-week program, 14 interns were asked to extend their positions and 4 interns were offered full time jobs.
