(MCMINNVILLE, OR) - MEDP (McMinnville Economic Development Partnership) celebrates the beginning of a record breaking year for the McMinnville WORKS Internship Program. With the applications closed, and the applicant’s resumes and cover letters delivered to Host Sites, this year’s McMinnville WORKS Internship Program is well on its way to being one of the best years for the program.

This year there were a record breaking 226 potential interns who applied through the program, an increase of 96 applicants from last year. All 226 applicants are competing for 22 internships at 14 host sites. 2018 Host Sites include Cascade Steel, the City of McMinnville, HBF International, MEDP, McMinnville Water & Light, Meggitt Polymers & Composites, New Energy Works, OnlineNW, Precision Analytical, Preditca, Inc,. Sea Reach Ltd., Solid Form Fabrication, Willamette Valley Medical Center, and Yamhill County Clerk.

The McMinnville WORKS Internship Program is a “Grow Our Own” initiative run by MEDP. It was created to help local businesses connect with a growing workforce of capable candidates. Internships are 9 weeks long, full-time, project-based, and paid. Internship positions this year include, but are not limited to, the following areas: engineering (electrical, mechanical, and civil), marketing and sales, conservation, finance, and more.

During the fall companies can apply to become Host Sites, and in January interested candidates can begin applying through MEDP’s website. Once the internship application closes (sometime in early to mid-February), the applications are scored and sorted, then the applications are given to the Host Sites at the beginning of March. Through March and into the first week of April the Host Sites make their hiring decisions. The internships begin in June and go through August.

2017 McMinnville Water & Light intern, Sylvette Benetti, commented on the program saying: “The McMinnville WORKS Internship Program separates themselves from the rest because they take the effort to make sure that you grow an immense amount and come away with knowledge and experiences you’ll benefit from for years to come.”

The McMinnville WORKS Internship Program was created as part of MEDP’s “Grow Our Own” Initiative. To learn more about the McMinnville WORKS Internship Program, please visit our website, mcminnvillebusiness.com/mcminnville-works-internship-program or email intern@mcminnvillebusiness.com.
