Growing our own workforce

We know that finding the right people with the right skills and attitude is a top concern for our local employers.

The McMinnville Economic Development Partnership (MEDP) and our industry partners believe the workforce challenges can be addressed by using a tried and true business method -- we've identified an opportunity so let's roll up our sleeves and tackle it!

We invest in an industry-led Grow Our Own workforce approach.  MEDP McMinnville WORKS gives us the platform to highlight our community and the employment opportunities with our local companies.  We work together on several recruitment and retention strategies to help grow a strong local workforce.

We support high school and quarterly adult job fairs, training resources like the Mid-Willamette Consortia and the On the Job (OJT) reimbursement programs, and we connect employers to the emerging workforce with our award winning summer internship program.

At MEDP, we are committed to driving real-world solutions to the workforce challenges of today.

The McMinnville WORKS Summer Internship Program --

This award-winning program is a 9-week project-based, paid summer internship designed to connect the emerging workforce with the career opportunities in our community. The program includes weekly Professional Development Workshops along with tours of each company to give interns a perspective of the diverse industries that are located in McMinnville.

History of McMinnville WORKS

McMinnville WORKS is an outgrowth of the highly successful Climax Portable Machining and Welding Systems' (Newberg, Oregon) internship program which launched back in 2008. MEDP, Freelin-Wade Company, Solid Form Fabrication and the Yamhill County Clerk’s office all hired interns through the Climax internship as part of a pilot program during summer 2013. Starting summer 2014, McMinnville WORKS was launched as a separate, industry-led program.
