Innovation Rooted in Community: LATERAL Advances AgTech

Nov 14, 2025

LATERAL Advances Oregon’s AgTech Future

At MEDP, we’re proud to see Oregon startups like LATERAL Systems driving innovation in agriculture and helping shape the future of sustainable farming. Their work reflects the kind of forward-thinking entrepreneurship supported through our Launch Mid Valley Regional Innovation Hub and our business attraction efforts at McMinnville Landing—where collaboration, innovation, and industry growth converge.

Fresh off their participation in the Sprout Summit, hosted by MEDP and Launch Mid Valley at Linfield University, LATERAL continues to make headlines

Since participating in the Sprout Summit held at Linfield University in March 2025, LATERAL has continued to make headlines. The company recently completed field testing of its LATERAL Edge Platform at OSU’s North Willamette Research and Extension Center (NWREC) and is now preparing to launch its MVP v1.

The LATERAL Edge Platform is an on-premise, continuous, automated monitoring system designed for indoor commercial nurseries, aquaponics, and hydroponics farms. By collecting and analyzing data locally—rather than relying on cloud connectivity—it enables farms to monitor water quality and atmospheric conditions in real time while maintaining control over their proprietary data. The system tracks key metrics like water pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, and CO₂ levels, alerting growers to issues before they impact plant health.

This milestone follows months of development by a dedicated engineering team led by Ed Lisle, Jared Krajewski, Dalyn McCauley, Ka Hung Lee, and Ian O’Gorman, along with partners at IoTech Systems, Urban.Systems, and advisor Jim White. The team’s work highlights the collaborative energy driving Oregon’s agricultural innovation sector—supported by MEDP, OEN, TAO, SEDCOR, Oregon TiE, and many others.

LATERAL’s progress also contributes to Oregon’s emerging vision for an AgTech Hub, connecting the state’s growers, researchers, and entrepreneurs through technology and collaboration. MEDP is proud to support Lateral Systems' growth since 2022.

As LATERAL continues to grow, they’re seeking two commercial farms—traditional greenhouse, aquaponics, or hydroponics operations—to beta test the LATERAL Edge Platform.
