These Are A Few Of Our Favorite Things
Dec 14, 2020
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! (Especially in McMinnville with the twinkle lights and festive feelings.) Our team wanted to share a few of our favorite things including holiday gift ideas, activities, tasty treats, and traditions!
Holiday Gifts:
- Shopping downtown at The Vortex: I still enjoy listening to music on vinyl, and have a few friends that do, too. Mostly, this is a gift for me.- Scott
- "McMinnville" gear by Type A Press They have everything from beanies, to sweatshirts, to fun new wine glasses and mugs! - Heather
- Everyone on my list this year is getting books from Third Street Books. It has been such a breeze being able to order online and pick up in store. (They also have the best gift wrap!) – Tayler
- Alchemist Jam makes the BEST stocking stuffers- Tayler & Heather
- Coffee beans from Flag & Wire or Exilior Coffee- Tayler
- Wine of course! There are too many amazing wineries to chose from! We all Love Elizabeth Chambers, R. Stuart, Brittan Vineyards, Remy Wines, Eyrie Vineyards, Youngberg Hill, Maysayra, Coeur de Terre Vineyards, J Wrigley Vineyards … the list goes on.
Activities & Traditions:
(It goes without saying that we all missed Santa’s Parade and Tree Lighting this year, but are eagerly anticipating it’s return in 2021!)
- Beer and cookie pairing at The Bitter Monk. I’ve Never thought about the two together, but it was delicious, and fun. (Also check out their 12-day Beer Advent calendar!) -Scott
- I love picking out new ornaments every year from La Bella Casa! This year the selection is particularly good, I ended up with a sparkly banana, a taco, a burrito and a glittery La Croix! -Tayler
- Driving through neighborhoods and looking at Holiday Lights. Of course Christmas Cul de Sac is a must visit! - Heather
- Shopping Downtown: Have you heard about “Men’s Night out?” It’s part of the 12 weeks of Christmas campaign from McMinnville Downtown Association ( Men’s Night Out is Tuesday, December 15th) Though it’s not just for the guys, it IS perfect for all the guys who typically leave their shopping until the 24th (you know who you are.) The Shops will be open late, businesses downtown will be offering specials, and yes, there will be gift-wrapping. -Tayler
- DIY Wreath Kits from Sustainable Rituals- Tayler & Heather
- The Nutcracker put on by Chehalem Valley Dance Academy. It's so fantastic every year, and one of my favorite traditions! This year Due to Covid, they filmed a movie version that can be streamed online. It goes live on December 23rd, and all the proceeds go to local charities.
Tasty Treats:
- You cannot go wrong with the candy cane brownies from Flour & Fern. I don’t know what gluten is, but I don’t miss it in these brownies. – Scott
- Olio Nuovo from Durant Vineyards. It is only around for a short time, and it happens to coincide with the holiday season. It’s the perfect addition to any table, and a great “made in Oregon” gift. -Tayler & Heather
- Bad Dog Bakery Molasses Cookies – Heather
- Holiday Breads from Red Fox – Tayler
- If you are a meat lover you can’t go wrong with anything from 71X Farmstore. I love their steaks and jerky, and the “The Rub” is good on everything. - Scott
- Tea and bitters from Free Wild She- The Cardamom Rose Tea is lovely, and the Grapefruit bitters are great addition to sparkling water or cocktails - Heather
