McMinnville Industrial Promotions (MIP) has been serving the McMinnville community and economy since 1953, helping bring industrial companies and new investments into the McMinnville area. 2023 marks 70 years of service for the volunteer board, formed when forty-five business and professional leaders pledged their own money to attract new businesses to the community.

The McMinnville Council made a proclamation recognizing the accomplishments of MIP at the October 24, 2023, Council meeting, citing the organization’s work since its founding to create additional economic vitality in the community.

Some prominent accomplishments of the group include their “9 for 69” campaign in 1969, which was an effort to bring in 9 new companies to McMinnville, two of which are still operating today: Cascade Steel a Radius Recycling Company, and Skyline Champion. In 1983, they entered a unique partnership with the City of McMinnville to acquire a $770,000 federal economic development grant to establish an industrial park in McMinnville. In 2004, they led the effort to create the McMinnville Economic Development Partnership (MEDP).

MIP has helped the following businesses operating in McMinnville through land development, build-to-suit facilities, business support expertise, and increasing capacity for jobs: Parker-Meggitt, Casteel Bottling, Betty Lou's, Amerson Precision Sheet Metal, Willian Henry, Fastenal, Water Right, Cascade Steel, and Skyline Champion. They have also worked closely with MEDP to attract new businesses to the area.

MEDP recognizes all this volunteer-based organization has done to improve McMinnville and the local economy. MEDP Executive Director, Patty Herzog commented on MIP’s partnership, “Having MIP as an organization here in McMinnville truly helps us set ourselves apart from other communities. The foresight and commitment this group of business leaders have shown throughout the past 70 years has been nothing short of transformative in the community. We at MEDP are grateful for their partnership. Here’s to 70 more years of improving McMinnville’s economy.”

The current members of MIP include Doug Hurl, Teresa Smith, Carol Granger, Harold Washington, Tom Tankersley, Deven Paolo, Mike Bisset, Chris Huwaldt, Miriam Vargas Corona, and Kate Gowell. Learn more about MIP at mcminnvillebusiness.com/mcminnville-industrial-promotions.
