Meet Chris Poole - MEDP 2015 Intern Coordinator has a passion for storytelling
The 2015 McMinnville WORKS set the bar high!
Learn about our 2015 Intern Coordinator for the McMinnville WORKS program and how this position impacted his future.
I am a Business Management Major at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. I like to keep myself busy throughout the school year, being involved in various teams and organizations. I compete for Linfield's cross country and track & field teams, while also serving as the cross country team representative for Linfield's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). I am also a Resident Advisor on campus, primarily working with freshmen/sophomore students. I am a member of Catholic Campus Ministry, which meets weekly on campus, and also part of a group of students who goes to St. James Church.
This has been an amazing summer being the Intern Coordinator and Marketing Intern for MEDP. My overall task was to manage all aspects of the McMinnville WORKS Program, and report to the members of the steering committee. My responsibilities included organizing and managing all aspects of the Professional Development Sessions during the McMinnville WORKS Program. I had to establish the topics which would be covered each week, as well as secure a location, speakers, equipment, and other logistics. I also worked on the Intern Profile project, which is designed to showcase each intern, as well as the McMinnville WORKS Program. This involved interviewing each intern and photographing each of them. Lastly, I organized all aspects of the McMinnville WORKS graduation and ceremony.
The most important thing that I have learned in this internship is an understanding of my future career goals. This program has helped me understand who I want to be coming out of college and entering the workforce. Going into this, I was not sure what I wanted to do with my life. After completing this internship, I realize that marketing is a field that I definitely want to go into. I've had so much fun creating marketing material for the McMinnville WORKS Program, as well managing the social media accounts of the program.
This program is truly a remarkable one. Where else can you gain real world experience, network with other interns your age, learn valuable professional skills, and experience a vibrant community such as McMinnville? I am grateful for the opportunity to intern for Jody and the McMinnville Economic Development Partnership. I have made meaningful connections throughout my time this summer, and am looking forward to what the future has in store for me.
